Art Group Exhibition at Teversal Church on October 16/17/18th 9:30am-5pm

An Introducing to —The Teversal Church and the Art Group Exhibition October 16/17/18th 9:30am-5pm The lovely & ancient church of St Katherine’s was built in the12th and extended during the13th century. It still commands a loyal and active congregation. Alike most ancient buildings that are 1,000 of age, they are all in need constant care and attention if they to survive in today’s fast pace world. Close-by lies the lovely old Manor room in the centre of the charming village of Teversal. It saw service as a school room for many years, but in 1956 the pupils were transferred to the local Stanton Hill girls school. Eventually the Sutton-in-Ashfield council agreed to renovate the Manor Room and it became a place for meeting and local events. At the turn of the 21st century, two forever-young ladies brought together some really talented artists and for 19-years now they have met together, each Tuesday, to chat and to create some beautiful works of art. Sheila and Penny have been the life and the soul of this little group, and we bless them for their amazing stamina and perseverance. Our friendly Art Club members have always offered a warm welcome for visitors and all-comers to take tea and biscuit, to chat about our art and other topics of the moment. You will always find some of our being created original art and if you are lucky some which we have lovingly complet ed. Most artists start young and sadly they give up after just a few attempts to create their master piece. Some continue and they achieve a level that they feel gives them pleasure. But all artists are filled with doubts and fears that their work is naïve and not worthy. Most artists shy-away from showing or hanging their completed art pieces, but 99.17% of people would simply love to have created a competent picture that gives us pleasure. Sadly, art can be pretentious, prone to exaggera tion, and fraudulent use—just take a look at the work made by Picasso, Van Gouch and Andy Warhol—money for old rope and yet selling in millions! I love creating art in its various forms but art is not just a picture of the moment, it’s a snap-shot of what a viewer is feeling at the moment and how this affects someone today and how it will do so from the past and the future. All such art should be allowed to be hung rather than hidden away in a cupboard to wither and fade. With the kind of permission of Karen Bradshaw & in memory of Philip, we will also exhibit a selection of his wonderful paintings made of his local historic buildings. Philip was a very quite, witty, and rather shy gentle man, very accomplished and possessed by great a great talent. He seldom showed his work formally and felt that his paintings were of little merit. When I finally met with him, just before he was taken from us, I was surprised that after much persuading, in 2024 he agreed to exhibit some of our work with together at the Edwinstowe Atrium. We had some lovely conversations and this certainly helped and encouraged our art. I miss Philip’s friendship terribly. I always will. Philip Bradshaw This will be our third year that the Teversal Art Group exhibition will exhibit in the Manor Room and St Katherine’s Church will be open for viewing.
